SUSTAINABILITY

Sustainability

I grew up in the countryside and spent much of my childhood building dams in the local stream, and dens in the woods. Later in life as I discovered photography I took long walks in that same countryside to practice with my new camera kit (including the picture at the top of this page). Some of my favourite childhood memories are of going to a little riverside cafe for cake with my grandparents, where we would stare out of the window looking for the local kingfisher that lived on that part of the river.

So our local environment has always been at the forefront of my mind from a very young age, and with that environment quickly changing due to climate change I thought it would be the right thing to do to offset the effect that my business has. As I frequently spend my weekends driving across the country, and take the occasional flight too.

By no means am I running a coal power plant, and I live fairly conscious of my consumption, so the overall effect I have isn’t huge to start with! But hopefully knowing that by booking me you’re taking an environmentally conscious decision will also give you some peace of mind, or even just a slightly smug feeling!

On an even more local level, I donate monthly to the Wildlife Trust, who do fantastic work to improve our beautiful countryside for the plants and animals that we share it with. The Ecologi logo tells you how many trees have been planted due to my donations, and you can click it to see a bit more info about projects that I’ve funded.

  • The puffin picture was taken at the Dyrhólaey cliffs in Iceland during a recent trip.

  • The mushrooms below were some particularly big ink caps. Found when my daughter and I went on a mushroom spotting trip to the woods during the autumn.

  • The waterfalls are both in Iceland. One is Seljalandsfoss, and the other with the mountain is Kirkjufell which featured in Game of Thrones.

  • The bird picture below is an surprisingly tame Starling which joined me for lunch one day. Decided it wanted some of my sandwich I think.
