The start of a new year is always a really reflective time for me (along with 99% of the population, I’m sure.). Taking a few hibenatory months at the start of the year to go over all of my work from the last year has become a really interesting thought experiment. Not only from a somewhat shallow self-aggrandising perspective of being able to share my favourite work with the dozen people who will end up reading this blog post (hi). But also to be able to pick out the pictures that really stand out to me and think about the direction my photography is going in… And as the years go on I notice that the general theme/vibe (ew) of the pictures I am drawn to changes, and my focus narrows.

I think I have now come to realise that what I absolutely LOVE capturing (and this may come across as a little trite) is happiness. Conveying such an widely-varied emotion in pictures is equally super simple (just pictures of happy people), and also something with infinite depth. There’s so much nuance to the emotion and way that it can come across in an image. Joy, elation, humour, whimsy, and of course love. The ways we connect as humans is so so varied, and it all comes to the forefront on a wedding day. And that’s what I really love photographing, and showing in my images. The comforting touch of a hand, the tears of overwhelming happiness, and of course the constant laughter.

2024, as with every year, had some incredible sunsets, beautiful wedding venues, but more importantly, it felt like a year filled with love, fun, laughter, and joy. The weddings I photographed were an absolute pleasure to be a part of, and I feel forever grateful that I get to do this as my job.

As the wedding industry changes, the type of days that I photograph change with it, so along with all the “big” wedding days, I have started taking on a bunch of smaller micr0-weddings, so in total I ended up photographing 46 couples getting married last year, and delivered in total over 36,000 pictures. Multiple Lord of the Rings marathons were required to produce that quantity of editing.

Thanks again to all the wonderful couples who chose to book me for their weddings in 2024. So looking forward to hopefully bumping into you all again as guests at other weddings in the future!
